A hiking packing list

I am planning my first solo hike, so obviously I started making a packing list! Here it is!

Carrier and hydration

I had been using my regular backpack for hiking and my Hydro Flask for water. However, both my backpack and Hydro Flask were VERY heavy which annoyed me during the hike. This is why I bought the Gregory Nano 22 H20 Hydration Pack. It weighs around 1 pound so hopefully I can stuff it full of snacks while hiking! 😛

My understanding is that dressing in layers is key for hiking – so here is how I plan on dressing:

  • Base layer: Sports bra, T shirt, leggings, Ankle length socks
  • Hiking shoes – so glad I made this investment last year
  • Outerwear options:
    • Warmer weather: Sweatshirt or Vest
    • Rainy weather: Rain jacket
    • Colder weather: Puffer
  • Accessories:
    • Cap
    • Sunglasses
    • Face mask (with a backup)

Caveat: I don’t know what makes for a good hiking snack, so this is just what I would potentially want to eat while hiking.

  • Sandwich
  • Granola
  • Chocolate
  • Chips

  • Sunscreen
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Wallet
  • Keys (car, house, etc)
  • Insect repellant (potentially?)

Pack in the car

  • Spare shoes to change into when you’re done with the hike

Future purchases

If I get into hiking (hike once every 3 weeks, then I will potentially look into getting the following)

  • Walking sticks
  • Gloves
  • Hat
