Books I read in April 2022

Welcome to Spring! And I have fully sprung back into reading books again! I have been on a book reading spree! And here are the books I have read in 2022!

The Emma Project by Sonali Dev

After reading Dating Dr. Dil by Nisha Sharma I just continued reading more brown romances. And you’ve got it right The Emma Project by Sonali Dev evokes Emma by Jane Austen! The fact that the female protagonist is named after me was just a pleasant surprise! I loved the characters in the story as I related to Naina’s pressure to please her mother and not hurt her! I also deeply empathized with her want to save the world and take the burden of the world on herself! I also think I could cosplay as Naina Kohli for Halloween, though I am nowhere near the statuesque beauty she was described as. Also can these books just get turned into Bollywood movies please? Sans the dance sequences!

The Ride of a Lifetime by Robert Iger

This book is the first time I genuinely felt compassion and was nodding along with a tech CEO’s memoir. Bob Iger expanded Disney’s influence by taking on some daring projects and trusting his gut while uplifting and trusting his employees. His book, his ability to meet people where they are by understanding their base needs and his actions in the press might make him my favorite tech CEO.

Chaos Monkeys by Antonio Garcia Martinez

I have been recommended this book by so many people that it makes me nervous to admit this – but here goes nothing. I didn’t like this book. Given I am already in tech I knew off most of the larger events that the author was talking about, so I didn’t learn much in that regard. I did however learn about his story which brings me to the main reason why I hated this book. I didn’t like the author as a protagonist. He is the typical tech bro nightmare you hear about. Having sex in closets with coworkers, thinking of himself as god, living on a boat.

I will concede to understanding why this book appeals to Silicon Valley outsiders, however it was a yawn for me.

I am in the middle of a long 3 months of travel so expect more book reviews and for me to catch up to my reading! See you soon!
