Books I read in August 2022

Startup of You by Reid Hoffman

I wish I had read Startup of You when I was starting my work career. As it stands I am definitely adding it to my list of books to gift new grads! I want to create a workbook that goes along with the book that I can keep on my shelves forever. It’s a great book for people who have vague goals that they struggle to articulate and as a result don’t know how to achieve!

The next two books are part of the Raje series by Sonali Dev. I have reviewed the other books Incense and Sensibility and The Emma Project as well.

Pride, Prejudice and other Flavors by Sonia Dev

Pride and Prejudice is the first book in Sonali Dev’s The Raje series inspired by Jane Austen novels. As the name states you hear about the growing relationship between Trisha and Darcy (DJ)!

Since Pride and Prejudice holds a special place in my heart this novel had high hopes attached to it. It was a slow burn just like Pride and Prejudice, there was even a Wickham involved! What I loved about the book was that Trisha filled the shoes of Jane Austen’s Darcy and DJ was Austen’s Elizabeth. The role flip brought interesting power dynamics to the forefront. However, the novel definitely wasn’t as spicy as the others so I do dock points for that!

Recipe for Persuasion by Sonali Dev

Again a slow burn! AAAHHHH I want more of the spicy drama we got with the Emma Project! I haven’t read Persuasion by Jane Austen so I didn’t know what to expect from the plot other than knowing the protagonists end up together! I did learn a lot about the pressure Ashna puts on herself (as you see in later books) and found myself empathizing with her and her character traits a lot. Since this is the last of the Rajes book that I read, I kept wondering is there a book about Nisha and if so I want to read that! I also wonder what Jane Austen novel that it would reflect?
