Books I read in December 2021

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Lots of travel and last minute work in 2021 basically means that I didn't read much in December but here are books I read or listened to! I am working on my reading goals for 2022 but here are the last books I read this year!

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

I was continuing my journey of romance novels from November 2021 and picked up The Hating Game by Sally Thorne since the movie was coming out. What can I say? This book is the archetype on enemies turned lovers and the book does a great job of portraying the characters as you imagined them! I can't explain why I love an enemies turned lovers trope! Maybe its the fact that it makes me hopeful that all relationships can come around and be salvaged!

We have always been here by Samra Habib

I saw this book in Indigo in Toronto - and saved it to my "To Read list". In this book we follow the protagonist on their journey from Pakistan to Canada. We also find her confront her queerness and how it intersects with her religion. It's a great book that talks about the intersectionality of sexuality, religion, refugee status in one beautifully told story!

My Life in Full: Work, Family, and Our Future by Indra Nooyi

Whether you want to read My Life in Full as the biography of PepsiCo’s former CEO, or as the story of a woman of colour in corporate America, as a resource on diversity and inclusion, or as an Indian immigrant’s love letter to her glorious American dream, this book will not fail you. It engages with all these topics.

I definitely did notice some oddities with how I engaged with this book though. For example, I found her humility upsetting - she attributed too much of her own success to her professional network. Or maybe that's just me hoping for a brown woman to write a memoir with the same pride that a white man would?
