Books I read in September 2022
I spent a large part of September flying or traveling and those were my opportunities to catch up on reading!
Take Back Your Power by Deborah Liu
I was lucky enough to be able to see Deborah Liu in person at Google and received this book as a result of that visit. It's always energizing for me to be in a group of women let alone Women PMs so this was a great moment to hear her speak and feel reenergized. The best part of the book was definitely that you felt like you were Deborah's friend getting advice from her over a cup of tea. She really showed vulnerability and strength by sharing all aspects of her life, including her religion, her upbringing and how she and her husband raise their children. All these aspects affect who she is as a leader and I appreciate leaders that bring that humanity to the forefront of their leadership style as Deborah does.
It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han and We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han
I have been in a deep romantic comedy withdrawal and so I skipped the line with Libby and borrowed book 2 and 3 in the The Summer I Turned Pretty series by Jenny Han. The books and the love stories highlighted in books 2 and 3 were as sweet and complicated as they were in the first book. I do wish Jenny Han spent more time talking about the major life events that shape the characters, like Beck's death, Jeremiah's decision to cheat, the moment Belly and Jeremiah decide to call off the wedding. However, I also understand that this is a Young Adult book so that might be difficult.
