Books I read in November 2022

It's December already which means I am coming close to meeting/not meeting my reading goal for the 2022 year! But for now let's take a look at the books I read in November.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Everyone is always shocked that I haven't read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! So it was long overdue that I give it a shot. And I am sad that I waited till I was a 30 year old woman to do so. I found the story a bit much, a bit too far fetched. Maybe I had lost my childlike wonder? I am sure that if I had read it earlier on I would have enjoyed it. Another factor in my lack of enjoyment could also possibly be that I already knew most of the references in the books as they are now part of pop culture.

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I loved reading One True Loves and couldn't recommend it enough as a holiday read. However, that is my reaction to any Taylor Jenkins Reid book! It's a story about falling in love again when you have changed yourself only to find your past self beckoning to you as well. I think it's a great story of self growth and learning. Definitely one to pick up if you want to sit on your couch with some hot chocolate!

Remote Control by Nnedi Okarofor

I got recommended this book by a friend and was initially attracted to the book. It's a story about a young girl Sankofa (Originally Fatima) who is known as the Adopted Daughter of Death. We learn about how she gains the power to and the burden that comes with that. She can take someone's life and euthanize them if they are close to death, giving them a merciful death. You empathize with the isolation that comes with such power and you can't help but empathize with this girl who can't explain where her power comes from but still owns it and makes it her own. It's a beautiful book that I would recommend to all in 2023!
