Books I read in August 2024

August was busy, with a distinct lack of sleep and weird ennui about work. This definitely affected my reading pace. But here are the three books I did get through!

The Fiance Dilemna by Elena Armas

This was a sweet book, there is nothing. more or less to say about this book. It’s fake marriage but he falls first and harder. It’s a great summer or cozy season book! It won’t change your life but it will give you comfort. Long Game is definitely my preferred one in this series! But I will take this one happily too!

Notes from a Young Black Chef by Kwame Onwuachi and Joshua David Stein

My favourite read (read listen) of the month! I loves watching Chef Kwame on Top Chef and it was great to read his story and visit his recipes in person. I am writing this while visiting DC where his first restaurant was based but I can definitely say I want to visit his second restaurant in New York soon! Would definitely recommend this as a read for people who want to understand about the lack of diversity in the restaurant industry, and why folks like Chef Kwame are integral because they tell their stories but also speak of intersectionality and individualism!

A Code of Thoughts by Rehas Sachdeva

A friend lent me this book as it was about their friend’s struggle with DIPG cancer. It is a self published book, so not the best edited. But as someone of South Asian descent it was nice to see those similar comforting words and foods that I associate with Bollywood movies be mentioned here as well. It was interesting to see a lack of time and place in this book, you could have been in the 1990s or in the 2020s, pain is universal and death is the only thing that is certain.
