Books I read in January, 2023
I was starting my writeup on books I read in February, 2023 only to realize that I didn’t do my January recap! SHOCK! So here goes - my recap of books I started this year with.
Spare by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex
I like many others was eagerly anticipating the release of this book to get a more holistic look at Prince Harry’s life since the breakdown of his relationship with his family is a prominent part of popular culture. I was impressed by how this book had a clear point of view. It made it clear that it was his point of view on events that shaped him. While it wasn’t the salacious read everyone made it out to be it wasn’t horrible. Could some scenes have been edited out since they were unnecessary? Yes.
I am surprised by the time jump at the end, you hear about Archie being born and then jump to Lili’s birth. This implies to me that there is a book two.
Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez
We all know the age old story, women are ALWAYS cold in offices because an office’s ideal temperate was decided in the 70s when offices full of men were surveyed. But that isn’t the only time women have been left out of planning. We as a race have often left women out of designing roads, transit systems, healthcare systems. And then asked women to work harder to bridge the gap we have created. This book does a great job of highlighting the many ways in which women are disadvantaged by systems that were specifically designed to leave them out.
