Sports tourism

People have been traveling for sports tourism for ages - watch to go watch an India vs Pakistan match, the US Open, a F1 race. But that’s never been me.

Till now.

I have always been into Formula 1 and I love the shared bites aspect of sports, I recently threw my very own Super Bowl party! :) However, I was never attracted to the idea of traveling to watch sports - its peak season and hotels are expensive and then you are adding a very expensive activity to your travel. Why would you do that?

But I am team “don’t knock it till you try it“. I have traveled to see an F1 race on a prior ocassion (Monaco Grand Prix) and have been able to see the Melbourne Grand Prix. I did have tickets to the Cricket World Cup but chose to not go in the end.

Here are some sports/ events I want to make an effort to watch in the coming years:

  1. Tennis: US Open, Wimbledon, Australian Open, Indian Well (it’s so close by)

  2. Football: FIFA World Cup

  3. Formula 1: Austin, Singapore,

  4. LA28: I would love to watch swimming and gymnastics at the Los Angeles 2028 olympics

  5. Cricket: I would love to watch an India vs Pakistan match live.

I would also in the long run love to travel to compete in a half marathon or a (gasp!) marathon, my candidates would be:

  1. Berlin Marathon (flat course)

  2. London Marathon (at this point my second home due to work)

  3. Sydney Marathon (nothing like going back to a place you used to call home). Also the route here might be the most beautiful route I have ever seen - Nostalgia?!
