Books I read in January 2022

Happy New Year reading friends!

The new year has been a bit weird on the reading axis. I have picked up 5 new books and have been reading bits and pieces of each and have only finished 2. So here I am going to talk about the 2 books I have picked up.

Before I do, I think the reason I am having a hard time is because of the first book that I decided to read this year - The Looming Tower: Al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 by Lawrence Wright. It is firstly a LONG book, which is hard to tell when you get an eBook. It is also not on the most pleasant topic. Weird book to start the new year with Naina. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Nevertheless let's talk about the two books I did pick up and finish!

Call Us What We Carry by Amanda Gorman

Starting off with a poetry anthology! This is Amanda Gorman's first anthology to be published. For those of you who don't know her Amanda Gorman is the youngest Youth Poet Laureate in the US! She also recited her poem The Hills we Climb at Joe Biden's inauguration! Her poems do a great job of engaging the reader by changing up the medium in which her poems are expressed, from using an army vet's letters to create poetry from, to writing a poem about the isolation brought about due to COVID in the shape of a face mask. It's definitely worth a read due to the diverse topics it touches on!

If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy

The second book I picked up was a romance novel. I don't remember how I came across this book as it was on my Libby list for a while, however I am glad I read it as it gave me my romance fix which was much needed after I picked up the book on 9/11. I didn't remember the book's synopsis however was happy to realize that it is based around a reality TV dating show and hence provided me with my Bachelor(ette) fix! :) It's a sweet story of a plus sized woman going on a dating show and finding her Prince Charming! :)
