Books I read in September 2023

September was a light month on the finishing a book front! I am midway through MANY books. Just one of those days lol.

Pillow Thoughts by Courtney Peppernell

I am definitely behind on my goal of reading poetry anthologies and this is how I came across this book. It had great poems for heart ache, for falling in love with someone else and most importantly poems for falling in love with yourself. It poem for the Rupi Kaur age! I enjoyed the book. Wouldn’t go around recommending it.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

I saw the trailer for the moving coming out over Thanksgiving and I knew I needed to get the book to read before the movie comes out. The imagery comparison to the original Hunger Games is STARK and VIVID. I can’t wait to hear Rachel Zeigler sing all the songs that are such an integral part of Lucy Gray Baird’s case. I wish the movie was in two parts that separates the game from Snow’s turn as a Peacekeeper. The book is a prequel that allows you to see who President Snow was a teenager and what formed his value system and turned him into a tyrant!
