Books I read in January 2024
Before you say it, yes I did only read Romance books in January and no I don’t want to hear it. I was traveling and this trend continues in February so get over yourself.
It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey
I hadn’t read any of Tessa Bailey’s work before but it became available at a time where my current book was boring! This plus my cousin’s recommendation put it up there. I am grateful I started the series on Piper and Hannah’s lives but I enjoyed the second book more. I didn’t empathize with Piper, it seemed like she always got what she wanted and even in this move to Washington State she was still getting away with a lot, she ends up with rich fisherman - that’s her long term story? I didn’t find Brendan and Piper the most appealing characters to read and was eagerly awaiting finishing the book and Hook, Line and Sinker becoming available on my Libby. It’s a classic trope - big town girl goes to small town and falls in love with local boy. If you like that trope, this is up your alley!
Hook, Line and Sinker by Tessa Bailey
Now this book, I love love and this love I can get behind. It’s a classic friends to lover trope and you have seeds of feelings already sown in the previous book. Hannah is the quite introvert to her sister Piper’s extrovertedness and repeatedly identifies as herself as the sidekick and NOT the leading lady. Maybe this is why I enjoy this book more? Or that the smut is nicer? Fox is more my type with the flirting than is Brendan. Also never will I look at ginger the same way. I love Hannah and Fox as individuals, empathize with them. And as result this is my favourite love story of the two. I would still not recommend starting on this without reading It Happened One Summer first though.
Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams
I don’t like second chance romance. I specially dont like it when the first chance is squandered over something so stupid. This book is not the one for me. While the concept of men bonding over Romance books is LOVELY and cute. The hero in this book is a discredit to them.
Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams
Again a younger sister, suave player romance. I do like Hannah more than I like Liv who sees the world as binary. That’s never an approach I have liked or resonated with so I do struggle with empathizing with her. However, I do love Mack and Liv’s banter and love story. Always here for the banter. Always. Sadly again a book you have to read in order of appearance in the universe otherwise I would skip Bromance Book Club.
