Books I read in February, 2023
I definitely didn’t read as much as I should have in January. However, February was the month of reading if there ever was one! So let’s dive into the books I read!
Why Is It Always About You? by Sandy Hotchkiss
I picked up this book to diagnose myself with the narcissistic personality disorder in a moment of weakness. That’s all I will say.
Sweet Success by Candace Nelson
I have been reading a lot about male CEOs and founders, so I definitely want to seek out more books by female CEOs and founders! I am a big fan of Sprinkles Cupcakes and miss it dearly when I am in Seattle! That red velvet cupcake has no business being that good. Hearing about Candace Nelson’s obsession with details and her user base made this an absolute delight to read!
Hit Makers by Derek Thompson
Continuing on my non fiction journey I read Hit Makers, to understand - you got it - what makes a hit and why are there only so few of them. Derek Thompson takes you through the music and movie industry while drawing parallels in today’s world of tech to demonstrate the necessary familiarity and network effects needed to make an app succeed.
Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas
I was craving CRAVING a romance novel and Elena Armas delivered. This romance takes some of my favourite romance novel tropes - enemies to lovers, warm weather trip, pretend relationship and puts it all into one. It reminded me of the Hating Game but with better location. I am hoping that Emily Henry’s Happy Place invokes a similar happiness in me.
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover
I am one of the few people on this planet who hasn’t read Colleen Hoover’s work. When I heard about Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively being cast to play the leads I was intrigued. I mistakenly thought it would be a happy romance book. I was wrong. It was a poignant read about the cycle of assault in families with violent parents. You see a woman, Lily marry a man she loves only to realize he is as violent as her father was towards her mother. That’s all I will say.
